We say farewell to Kathleen Cowles Paul

Sadly, one of our most active and beloved members of DWMC has passed away. Kathleen Paul, a founding member of this organization, the driving force for our organization's strategic plan, and most recently for our 2012 plan, died on Saturday, January 14, 2012 after a long battle with cancer.

Kathleen was a persuasive communicator, working tirelessly on many campaigns, including John Kerry's bid for president in 2004. Then after the county's terrible Kerry election--undervote throughout the county, particularly in Farrell, broken and misprogrammed voting machines, no paper ballots--for weeks, Kathleen helped uncover and solve those problems on the county's investigative panel. Always a believer in Democrat ideals, Kathleen advocated for strong, well-trained precinct people to build a grass roots organization to make the party strong, and candidate recruitment as a fundamental part of party building. She used her tremendous energy toward each.

Known for her ability to see events with a keen long-term perspective, Kathleen firmly believed that we are involved in the most important Presidential election of our lives in 2012. Well aware of Obama's past accomplishments as President, Kathleen still believed that his most important successes are yet to come, with Supreme Court appointments that will affect our nation for as long as 35 years and the threat of vetoes that will keep our country on a sane and disciplined track. She was a Democrat through and through.

Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers. There will be a visitation on Friday, 7-9 pm (January 20) at Scott Black Funeral Home in Stoneboro then a memorial mass on Saturday at 10am at Beloved Disciple, Grove City. Later in March the family would like to have a Celebration of Life to honor, respect and enjoy our memories of Kathleen. Kathleen's obituary appears in the January 18th edition of the Sharon Herald.
